Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Sunday directed senior officials of protocol department to contact Uttarakhand government for providing relief to pilgrims from the state who were stranded near Uttarkashi due to heavy rains in that state.

The Uttarakhand officials in Dehradun were requested to provide all possible help to the pilgrims from AP, official sources said here. The Uttarakhand officials informed that all efforts are being made to reach the pilgrims and clearing the road blockades.

Reddy's intervention came in the wake of reports that a large number of pilgrims from AP were stranded near Uttar Kashi due to the heavy rains in Uttarakhand.  Reports from Dehradun said thousands of Char Dham pilgrims were stranded on Gangotri and Yamunotri routes, as incessant overnight showers across Uttarakhand caused landslides in Uttarkashi district and swelled rivers.

Hotels and dharamshalas in Uttarkashi district are bursting at the seams with char dham pilgrims occupying their lounges due to non-availability of rooms.
