The row between Rampachodavaram assistant superintendent of police (ASP) Dr B Naveen Kumar and East Godavari SP CM Trivikrama Varma has ended in the former’s suspension with immediate effect after an inquiry has revealed the allegations of the young IPS officer to be baseless.
The state government on Monday issued orders placing Naveen Kumar under suspension for gross misconduct and rank insubordination.
Kumar had made serious allegations against Trivikrama Varma saying he was involved in facilitating the transportation of ganja in the district and had even attempted to kill him.
Following the ASP coming out in public with the charges, the police top brass had ordered an inquiry by Eluru range DIG G Suryaprakash Rao.
However, before the report was disclosed, Kumar alleged that Rao too was hand in gloves with Varma and had not accepted evidence against the SP.
The orders issued on Monday blamed Naveen Kumar for directly approaching the media and making allegations against senior police officials which amounted to misconduct and contravention of Rule 17 of the All India Services (Conduct) rules, 1968.
Sources said that during the inquiry, senior officials found that Kumar allowed a woman to interfere in official matters.
“Some criminal cases were registered against people at the behest of this woman, whose relationship with the ASP is not known,” sources added.
