Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has now joined the likes of Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler and Iraq's Saddam Hussein by using chemical weapons against his own people, US Secretary of State John Kerry said on Sunday.
"Bashar al-Assad now joins a list that has Adolf Hitler and Saddam Hussein as those who have used these weapons in time of war," Kerry told NBC. "This is of great consequence to Israel, to Jordan, to Turkey, to the region and to all of us who care about enforcing the international norm with respect to chemical weapons," he said in response to a question.
This is the reason, Kerry argued, that President Barack Obama has taken a decision to go for a military strike against the Assad regime. "Use of chemical weapons is unacceptable, and we cannot stand by and allow that to happen and create an impunity for its use. That would be the end of the chemical weapons norm, and that's why the President has made the decision," he said.
