KOCHI: Sabarimala pilgrims have been badly affected owing to the ban on vendors at various railway stations in the state, Sabarimala Ayyappa Seva Samajam general secretary Kummanam Rajasekharan has said.Pilgrims are suffering owing to lack of food services, especially at major railway stations such as Palakkad, Shoranur, Kozhikode, Kannur, Thrissur, Kottayam and Chengannur. The ban is affecting the pilgrims as they are forced to eat from non-vegetarian food stalls. Also, there is a deficiency of food available at the stalls. The Ayyappa Seva Samajam has demanded the railway authorities to lift the ban on vendors. It is the responsibility of the railways, as it is making a huge profit during the pilgrimage season from the stations in Kerala. The railways has achieved a profit of `200 crore, many times than the usual amount, in the current pilgrimage season alone, the Samajam pointed out. Other facilities, including more bathrooms and electricity supply, should also be provided. Also, more trains should be introduced, the Samajam said.
