VIJAYAWADA: Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has said his government is committed to grounding the Bandar port development works at the earliest, clearing the doubts of people of Krishna district over the project execution.The Bandar Port Sadhana Samithi has been organising a relay fast for the past 180 days at Koneru Centre in Machilipatnam denouncing the undue delay in commencement of port development works.Former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy laid the foundation stone for the project at Chinnakar Agraharam near Machilipatnam on April 23, 2008.Initially, the port development project was awarded to Maytas. When the company caught in a crisis, the project was awarded to Navayuga Construction Company in April 2010. The company made it clear that it would launch port development works soon after the allotment of land.Against the requirement of 6,000 acres for the port development project, 418 acres have only been acquired so far.
