BANGALORE: City-based student Ganesh Ajjanagadde secured an all-India rank (AIR) of 149 in the All India Joint Entrance Examination (JEE)-2012 and topped in the state by scoring 314 marks out of 401. An elated Ganesh said, “Calculated hard work with meticulous planning helped me achieve the score. Avoiding short-cuts in the preparations and clarity of concepts in all subjects rendered by excellent faculty contributed to this result.” The second rank from state in IIT JEE was secured by Deepak D with AIR 369. “I am very happy with the results and I have secured 76 per cent in IIT JEE. I am looking at studying computer science in either IIT-Bombay or IIT-Madras,” said Deepak. He also added that the delay in the Pre- University examinations created a lot of frustration and stress among students. Deepak said he stuck to his study schedule for IIT-JEE when students across the state appearing for II PUC examinations faced the problems caused by question paper leak. Director of Dhiksha Learning Centre Dr Sridhar said, “The number of all-India ranks from Karnataka has increased, but unfortunately none of the ranks figure in the top 100 ranks. The quality in terms of performance, however, has taken a back seat.” More than 5.6 lakh students appeared for the IIT-JEE held on April 8, 2012. The maximum number of applications for IIT-JEE 2012 came from Kanpur zone, followed by Chennai zone. The exams were held at 1,067 centres across the country for nearly 9,600 undergraduate seats in the 15 IITs across India. The IIT-JEE 2012 question paper had two incorrect questions.
