Bellary MP Shantha admits to perjury

BANGALORE: Bellary MP B Shantha admitted before the court on Tuesday that she contested the 2009 Parliamentary elections in Bellary without even getting her name deleted from the electorol list in Guntakal.
During crossexamination, Shantha also admitted that her husband B Nagaraj and she are of the same caste. Advocate Kantharaj, who crossexamined Shantha, submitted before the court that Shantha's husband Nagaraj belonged to Boya community and not to Talwara community, which is one of the subcastes in Baya or Valmiki caste, as claimed by Shanta. Therefore she has submitted false caste certificate to contest elections from Bellary constituency.
