Bengaluru Boy Thrashes Mother with Broom on Being Scolded for Smoking; Video Goes Viral

Bengaluru: A video of a teenage boy thrashing his mother with a broomstick went viral on Saturday.

The boy has been identified as 19-year-old Jeevan, a resident of Chennammanakere, Bengaluru.

The incident took place when Jeevan was reprimanded by his mother Shubha after she found photos of him smoking a cigarette. In the video, he can be heard threatening his mother to go ahead and file a police complaint against him, while beating her with the broom.

Taking suo motu cognisance, the Bengaluru city police have registered a case at the JP Nagar police station. The police have filed an FIR under IPC 324 (Voluntarily causing hurt), 354 (Assault or criminal force on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 509 (Insult to modesty of a woman) and under sections of the COPTA Act (Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act).

Meanwhile, the State Women's Commission headed by chairperson Nagalakshmi said that they have taken up the issue and promised strict action.
