BHUBANESWAR: The trade and Industry Cell of BJP on Wednesday called upon the people to support the December 1 Bharat Bandh call given by several frontal wings of the party. Lambasting the Centre for its decision to allow 51 per cent FDI in the retail sector, State convener of the cell Umesh Khandelwal said such a move would cripple the economic sector and render people engaged in the retail markets jobless. Condemning the Centre’s decision, Khandelwal said crores of people, including farmers, will be affected by the decision. Opening of the retail markets to overseas multinational companies like Wall-Mart and Carrefour will do more harm than good to the country’s economy.Dismissing the UPA Government’s claim that FDI in retail market will create more job opportunities, he said wherever these multinational companies have gone they have destroyed the local economy.Swadeshi Jagaran Manch, All India Traders’ Federation, BMS and Bharat Udyog Mahasangh have jointly given the bandh call.
