New Delhi: The inquiry report into the mid day meal tragedy in Chhapra in Bihar has blamed the school principal for the incident. The report, prepared by the Saran Police Commissioner, alleges criminal negligence by the school principal. The report has been submitted to the Ministry of Human Resource.

Twenty three children died after eating mid day meal served to them at their school in the village of Dharmasti Gandawan near Chhapra, about 60 km from Patna.

The playground of the school has turned into a graveyard after three of the 23 children who died after consuming poisonous mid day meal were buried there.

The villagers are angered and shocked by the tragedy and are blaming the absconding headmistress Meena Devi for the incident. "Where is Meena Devi? Why are these people absconding after murdering so many children?" the villagers are asking. Meena Devi along with her family fled the village minutes after the tragedy struck the school.
