ROURKELA: BJD staged a dramatic fight-back as it swept the third phase of the Zilla Parishad (ZP) election on Wednesday. The party candidates have reportedly won all the eight ZP constituencies. While unofficial results hinted at complete rout of the Congress, BJP too struggled for a toehold even in State BJP chief Jual Oram’s stronghold, Bonai and Lahunipara blocks.BJD led by Rajya Sabha member Mangla Kisan won the Subdega (A) and (B) seats along with the Balishankara (A) and (B) ZP constituencies.In 2007, Congress had won three and BJP one seat in Balishankara and Subdega blocks.BJD Minister Sarada Prasad Nayak also emerged stronger in the third phase with the BJD winning Lahunipara (A) and (B) and Bonai (A) and (B) ZP constituencies. The BJP earlier had a slender lead of 100 votes in Bonai (A) but eventually lost out to BJD.Rajgangpur Congress MLA Gregory Minz attributed money, muscle power and misuse of the administrative machinery by BJD for Congress’ poor show. Meanwhile, Jual has announced that he would contest from Bonai Assembly seat in 2014. Jual said he kick-started his political journey winning Bonai seat in 1990. In an obvious attack on his erstwhile protege and now suspended BJP MLA Bhimsen Choudhary, the former Union minister said he owes a moral responsibility to root out ‘mafia-raj’ from Bonai.Paradip: BJD has reportedly won all the six ZP seats after the third phase panchayat poll on Wednesday. Unofficial sources said BJD candidates won in four zones in Kujang and two zones in Nuagaon block. So far, panchayat poll has been completed in 18 zones of Jagatsinghpur but Congress is yet open account. In both the blocks, the fight has been between BJD and Congress.
