Mahasamund Lok Sabha seat's sitting BJP MP Chandulal Sahu filed his nomination on Tuesday from his home constituency. He filed his nomination papers at the Mahasamund collectorate in the presence of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh and a large number of his supporters.
Later, Singh addressed a public meeting at a school ground in Mahasamund and appealed to the people to ensure Sahu's victory to ensure a Narendra Modi-led BJP government at the centre.
"Our target is to cross 272 seats in parliament and we will definitely achieve it," he said.
Mahasamund and two other parliamentary constituencies namely Rajnandgaon and Kanker would go to polls on April 17. The final date for filing nominations for Mahasamund, Kanker and Rajnandgaon seats is March 26 while scrutiny of nominations will be completed on March 27.
Contestants could withdraw their names until March 29.
