New Delhi: US President George Bush was at his funniest at the annual White House Correspondents' dinner - the last one of his tenure and ensured it was a night full of laughter and good-natured ribbing.

Craig Ferguson, the host of CBS' Late Late Show, was the featured entertainer.

The guest-list for the dinner included actors Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner, John Cusack, Pamela Anderson, singer Ashlee Simpson and author Salman Rushdie.

But the most interesting feature of the night Bush conducting the orchestra himself. The President poked fun at the current election candidates, light-heartedly commenting on their absence from the dinner.

“Next year a new President will be standing up here. I have to say I am kind of surprised we don't have more presidential candidates here tonight. Like any Sen. McCain is not here he probably wanted to distance himself from me a little bit. You know he is not alone. Jena is moving out too. The two democratic candidates are not here either. Sen. Clinton couldn't get into the building because of a sniper fire and Senator Obama is at church,” he said.
