An executive committee meeting of the BJP parliamentary party is scheduled for the afternoon, followed by a crucial meeting of all NDA MPs and leaders.

New Delhi: The BJP may end the suspense over its vice-presidential pick on Sunday when it holds a meeting with its NDA partners, two days before the deadline for filing of nomination. The meeting is among many the ruling party will hold on Sunday.

An executive committee meeting of the BJP parliamentary party is scheduled for the afternoon, followed by a meeting of all NDA MPs and leaders. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah would be present in the meetings.

The executive committee is a customary forum summoned ahead of the Parliament session to fine-tune party strategy.

But it is the meeting of the NDA MPs which assumes significance as the electoral college for the vice-presidential polls comprises members of both Houses of Parliament.

In the last one week, the RSS top brass had camped in Delhi and had discussions on the nominee.

Since the NDA lacks numbers in the Rajya Sabha, one of the issues discussed has been to nominate someone who has a rapport across party lines which may come handy while running the Upper House. The Vice-President of India is also the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.

Eighteen opposition parties have already nominated Gopalkrishna Gandhi as their vice-presidential nominee.

Voting for the V-P elections will be held on August 5 and counting of votes will be held the same day.
