SALEM : Three persons were arrested on Friday in a land grab case, in which PMK former MLA M Karthi is also an accused.However, the former MLA could not be arrested as he had gone to Chennai for medical treatment.According to police sources, Nanjappa Gounder of Kotagoundenpatti near Omalur and his sons - Kannan and Varadharajan - owned 3.46 acres of land.Adjacent to this is a piece of land measuring 1.65 acres owned by another person.Adjoining that land lies yet another piece of land measuring 3.46 acres, which is owned by Sidhan, Ponnuvel and Annamalai, said police sources.
In 2007, the three sold the land to PMK district executive committee member Mohan, who, in turn, sold it to Karthi, a month after the transaction.After the special cell for land grab cases was formed, Nanjappa Gounder and his son Kannan lodged a complaint with Superintendent of Police N M Mayilvahanan alleging that their 3.46acre land, worth Rs 60 lakh, and the adjoining 1.65 acres of land, had been usurped by Karthi, Sidhan, Ponnuvel and Annamalai using forged documents.The police filed cases against Ponnuvel, Annamalai, Karthi and Mohan. Sidhan is no more.On Friday, the police arrested Ponnuvel, Annamalai and Mohan after investigating the complaint.When a huge contingent of police force arrived at Karthi's house early on Friday morning, PMK cadre and some districtlevel party functionaries gathered in the area.The police personnel were told that Karthi had gone to Chennai for medical treatment, following which they returned.Depending on Karthi's health condition, he too will also be arrested soon, the Superintendent of Police said.In another case of land grab, a retired teacher was arrested near Sankagiri.
