KOCHI: In an attempt to boost the production of tender coconut and to ensure maximum profit for the farmers, the Coconut Development Board (CDB) has decided to bear 50 per cent of the cost for setting up tender coconut parlours. The registered coconut producers societies (CPS) have been asked to file detailed projects for setting up the parlours for the CDB.The tender coconut parlour is an innovative venture of the CDB wherein groups of 40-100 coconut farmers in an area called ‘coconut producers society’ will supply tender coconuts to parlours set up in various parts of the state and the country including, important institutions, hospitals and tourist spots. It is an attempt to avoid middlemen and to give a boost to the marketing of tender coconut by increasing the demand, raising prices and providing a steady income for the coconut farmers. The subsidy of 50 per cent will be given after the bills and vouchers for setting up the basic infrastructure for the tender coconut parlor are produced before the CDB.
