THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The fake vote controversy in the Assembly on the day of voting of Finance Bill, took a new turn on Wednesday with Chief Minister Oommen Chandy requesting Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan to cooperate with the examination of video records of voting to find out who had cast a fake vote. However, the Opposition Leader passed the ball to the Speaker’s court saying that it was the Speaker who is the ultimate authority regarding the happenings inside the House. In reply to VS’s statement the other day, Chandy wrote to VS on Wednesday saying the UDF was ready to request the Speaker to give a chance to examine the video of the voting held on July 20. VS had said that the government could easily identify the culprit by examining the video of voting of Finance Bill. A list of Treasury Bench MLAs who took part in the voting was also attached with the Chandy’s letter. “Sixty-nine MLAs of the ruling front cast their votes. T A Ahammed Kabir and C P Mohammed raised their hands in support while Varkala Kahar couldn’t vote as he reached late. Hibi Eden and T U Kuruvila were absent,’’ said Chandy. He asked VS to clarify who among these MLAs had cast a fake vote and said the government viewed the allegation raised by the Opposition very seriously.Replying to Chandy’s suggestion, VS said that it was the Speaker who should take a decision on the issue. “The Opposition has already filed complaints with the Speaker and the Governor. We are yet to get a reply from the Speaker. There is no need for a debate between the CM and Opposition Leader on the issue,’’ VS said in the reply to Chandy.
