Beijing: China's defence ministry has launched its official iPhone app which will allow users to track the activities of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), a media report said. China Daily reported that app will allow users to track what the People's Liberation Army (PLA) is doing.
The application is a newsreader and it gives the latest information, pictures and videos for iPhone users.
"Users will not only receive important information released on that day by the ministry, but also comprehensive coverage of key military issues, as well as breaking news from the PLA Daily," the ministry said.
But there is a catch to it. ismashphone.com reports that the official People's Liberation Army app is not available on Apple's App Store and therefore requires users to jailbreak their iPhones before they can download it. Apparently the Chinese government had some issues with Apple's strict App Store guidelines.
The growth in the iPhone market in the country increased by nearly 250 percent year-over-year during the first quarter of 2011. China is now the second-largest iPhone app market in the world after the US.
Peng Guangqian, a military strategist, said the ministry's app will help people know more about the country's military development and eliminate misunderstandings caused by rumours.
The US Army also has its own iPhone app that is available on Apple's App Store.
