HYDERABAD: A 30-member students’ team led by NSS IIT Chennai, student-run NGOs Orange Leaf and SCRAP took up an awareness drive against litter in public places in the city on Sunday. As part of the campaign, the students picked up litter in front of Prasad’s IMAX, segregated plastic, glass and paper and later gave it to ITC WOW (Wealth out of Waste) for recycling. Later, the students also planted 15 saplings at the Indira Park. “It is going to be called the Orange Garden as most of us are from Orange Leaf,” says Varsha Gandhikota, founder-member of Orange Leaf. “When we were picking up litter at Prasad’s Multiplex, our activity attracted a number of curious passersby. We explained to them our concern for environment. A few students from the nearby Saraswati Vidya Mandir also joined us after seeing us clean the place,” she adds. ITC WOW supported the students and provided them badges for the campaign.
