HYDERABAD: The day to day administration at the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), district collectorates of Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts has come to a grinding halt due to the ongoing Telangana Sakala Janula Samme or general strike.Almost all the employees in these departments skipped work after signing the registers. Citizens, who came to these offices on Thursday for getting land use certificates, LRS certificates, building plan approvals, No Objections Certificates, bank loans and caste and income certificates, had to turn back disappointed. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) employees too decided to boycott work like property tax collections and join the strike from Sept 20. If the State Government invokes ESMA against them, the GHMC employees warned, they will not hesitate to stop essential services like sanitation and street light work. The HMDA office at Tarnaka wore a deserted look with employees literally locking up the offices and taking to the streets. HMDA Telangana Employees’ joint action committee convenor Srinivasa Chary told Express that as per the instructions of the TJAC, the strike would be continued and said the employees were ready to forego their salaries for up to three months. As the strike was announced long back, he appealed to the people not to come to the offices and face inconvenience.
