TUMKUR: Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda observed that eradication of corruption should start from the chief minister’s office to set a benchmark.He was speaking here on Friday after inaugurating various developmental works, including a building block dedicated to former higher education minister late Dr V S Acharya, in Tumkur University. He said that files in the chief minister’s office should be cleared in time to ensure they are free of corruption. “In a materialistic, fast transforming world, we seem to be in a mad race at the cost of our essential and indigenous culture and tradition. The time has come to realise this and reverse the trend,” he said.He regretted that people who were at the helm of affairs were losing their peace of mind as they were after materialistic gains and trying hard to safeguard their assets.The chief minister advised that instead of looking at others to eradicate corruption, educated youth should start doing the same on their own.Meanwhile, Gowda observed that Acharya is a role model as he was transparent and was known for his commitment to work. “At a time when even a gram panchayat member maintains a high profile, Acharya was humble and down-to-earth. He was a great visionary and a statesman”, he stated.
