HYDERABAD: A picture is worth a thousand words. This is perhaps the idea behind which 14 artists come together to narrate ‘a Story’. Organised by Rachana art gallery, the exhibition is an interesting yet ambiguous depiction of the idea of a story. ‘A Story’ is a collection of 25 paintings by a motley mix of experienced and upcoming artists like Mritunjay Mondal, Laxman Aley, Datta Bansode, Thota Vaikuntam, Shuvaprassanna, Sachin Jaltare and Rini Dhumal among others. Going by the theme, each of the paintings at exhibition has an underlying story that can be ‘read’ and understood. The collection which ranges from a painting of a woman’s face using contrasting hues of red, an oil on canvas by Suhas Roy to the pencil-on-paper sketch of an old hunter with a sad face lost in his own thoughts by Krishen Khanna, the variety is an interesting mix of flamboyant yet understated art. The painting of Lord Buddha by Datta Bansode, known for his politically aware paintings generates a feeling of peace because of the minimal and sombre colours used. However, in ‘Her Story-2’, Mritunjay Mondal depicts the grey face of a woman looking down, with the inset of Goddess Kali in the background. It shows the irony of the situation where a woman while being expected to serve, is also worshipped as the Goddess Kali.Talking about the exhibition, curator Sowbhagya Rachaputi says, “The paintings by Mritunjay Mondal and Datta Bansode have been getting extra attention by the visitors. But, the exhibition as a whole has been doing well.” The exhibition will be on display at the Chitramayee State gallery of fine arts till December 10 from 11 am to 7 pm.
