CUTTACK: A stateoftheart convention hall and multifacility centre is in the offing near Saheed Bhawan. The Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has begun efforts to give shape to the facility that would come up over 30,000 sq ft space available at the municipal garage site.
The multistorey complex would have modern facilities like shopping malls and outlets, a theatre hall and a possible multiplex or miniplex. The broad contours of the project are being decided upon. The concept design of the building along with its facilities would be finalised on the basis of presentations of the empanelled architects. The best design would be selected and worked upon. The foundation stone would be laid on August 31 and the project completed in two years. The convention hall would be built to accommodate over 400 people and have adequate parking facilities besides rooms for accommodation as addons. This would serve as a community centre, an area where the millennium city is struggling.

"We are looking at an integrated shopping complex with a mall and independent outlets. The theatre would be for staging plays, dramas and cultural functions with a capacity of around 250. We are also exploring possibilities for including a miniplex so as to provide a wholesome, recreationcumbusiness activities to the people," Commissioner RN Nanda said.
