THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Government has formed a core committee that will monitor the garbage issue in the city in the wake of the growing crisis and to explore alternative means to tackle the problem. The committee will be headed by LSG Principal Secretary James Varghese. It will hold meetings every second day and will report crucial developments on the garbage issue to the State Government. It has to advise the Corporation in tackling the issue, find out alternative methods to solve the issue at least temporarily and to suggest long-term suggestions too.The core committee will have Urban Affairs Department Director, KSUDP Project Director, Suchitwa Mission Executive Director and Corporation Secretary as members. The committee has been asked to meet until the issue gets sorted out. The meeting held in this regard on Tuesday, chaired by Urban Affairs Minister P K Kunhalikutty, asked the Corporation to identify more revenue lands to landfill garbage. According to Mayor K Chandrika, who attended the meeting, the health inspectors in the wards would identify the problems in their respective wards and report the developments to the Corporation, which would communicate the matter to the core committee. ‘‘The core committee is to monitor the issue from now on,’’ the Mayor said.
