CHENNAI: Police cracked the murder case of a Nanganallur based wholesale dealer by arresting a couple, who confessed to having committed the act as the man misbehaved with the woman and sought favours from her. Members of the special teams investigating the case picked up Sivakumar (36) of Tirupur and Kavitha (28) of Puducherry from Chinnakarai bus stop near Tirupur. They also seized stolen valuables worth Rs1.80 lakh.Police said the couple had met while working in a hotel at Avinashi. Later they started living together as both were estranged from their spouses. They contacted Chandrasekar (55) after seeing a newspaper advertisement calling for employees for his mosquito net/screen business. Later Chandrasekar allegedly called Kavitha many times over the phone asking her to have physical relations with him.On November 16, Chandrasekar picked up the couple from the Guindy Railway Station upon their arrival from Karaikudi. They were provided accommodation in Chandrasekar’s office itself. After his wife Gowri — a manager with a nationalised bank — left for work in the afternoon, Chandrasekar called Kavitha to his house and allegedly made sexual advances towards her. Next day, he approached Kavitha again and asked her to have sex with one of his acquaintances.Kavitha subsequently informed Sivakumar about the incidents and together they hatched a plan to finish off Chandrasekar.On November 18, Kavitha went to Chandrasekar’s house again. She was accompanied by Sivakumar, who took the wholesaler to task for his actions. Later, the couple smothered Chandrasekar and strangled him before fleeing with gold jewellery worth Rs 2 lakh from the house.
