New Delhi: India's medal hunt on the fifth day of the Commonwealth Games on Friday began with the host nation's 15th gold that came in archery, where the Indian women beat England in the team recurve event.
The Indian team of Dola Banerjee, Deepika Kumar, and Bombayala Laishram won gold in a nail-biting finish against England.
England floundered in the last three shots of the final and lost from a position of strength. India, however, saved the best for the last and clinched the top podium spot after hitting their best score in three shots.
While England shot 9, 6 and an 8 in shots number 22, 23 and 24, Indian women pulled off their best shots of the match and scored 9, 9 and 10 to consolidate India's second position in the medals tally early on Friday.
Earlier in the morning, India women team beat Malaysia 213-185 to reach the final. The Canadian women bagged the bronze beating Malaysia in the third place play-off.
