Cycle sell only on identity proof: Shops in Anand
Cycle sell only on identity proof: Shops in Anand
Cycle shop owners in Gujarat's Anand town have taken some good steps.

Anand: Cycle shop owners in Gujarat's Anand town have voluntarily decided that they will sell cycles only after the buyer provides them adequate identification.

Work as usual for Dipen Patel - the owner of National Cycle Works in the Anand town of Gujarat.

But this signboard is new. From now on people coming to buy cycles from his shop will have to give proof of their identity.

Being president of the Cycle Merchants Union in Anand, Patel has appealed to other cycle shop owners to follow suit.

No directive from any state authorities - it's a voluntary step taken to avert possible misuse of cycles on the lines of Jaipur.

Cycle Merchants Association President Dipen Patel said, "Our association has decided that we will not sell bicycles to people without identification proof. I have even put a signboard to that effect."

There are about 100 cycle stores in Anand town. Also this town in Central Gujarat, is home to prestigious institutions like the Amul Dairy, National Dairy Development Board and the Institute of Rural Management...

"Its good that the cycle shop owners have decided this. I think everybody should co-operate with them," says a customer.

With Jaipur very fresh in public memory, this voluntary attempt by Anand's cycle shop owners is surely commendable.
