HOSUR: In a landmark Judgement, Krishnagiri Sessions Court Judge Perumal awarded life imprisonment to a father and seven year imprisonment to his wife on Wednesday for killing their new-born baby girl.Selvam (40) and Thulasi (35) of Kundalampatti village in Kaveripattinam panchayat in Krishnagiri killed their baby girl on November 11, 2005. The couple killed the baby as they already had two girl children. Coming from a family with a poor background, the couple thought they could not raise a third girl child. They killed the child by feeding tobacco essence through its mouth and nose at the same time. Later they had buried in the body in their backyard. But the incident came to light through their relatives. Following this, the Village Administrative Officer Krishnan lodged a complaint in this connection with the Kaveripattinam police. The police exhumed the body of the infant and arrested the couple. Judge Perumal, who heard the case, awarded life imprisonment to Selvam, while slapping a fine of `2,000. He also awarded seven-year imprisonment to Thulasi and slapped a fine of `1,000.
