New Delhi: The special Olympics for the deaf and mute - Deaflympics - saw India's Virender Singh winning a gold medal in the men's 74 kg freestyle event. The Delhi-based wrestler beat Turkey's Oguz Donder to win gold at the 22nd Summer Deaflympics held in Sofia, Bulgaria.
This was the third consecutive medal at the event for Singh, who trained with Olympic silver-medallist wrestler Sushil Kumar and bronze-medallist Yogeshwar Dutt. Goonga Pehelwan as he is famously known, Singh won a gold in 2005 edition of the Deaflympics, followed by a bronze in 2009. In between he added a silver at the 2008 World Deaf Wrestling Championships.
Singh, 28, is employed by the Haryana Power Corporation.
