New Delhi: Delhiites woke up to a dense fog cover Monday morning, but the weatherman said the sky would clear by forenoon and the rest of the day would be warm and sunny.
General visibility plunged to zero at 0630 HRS (IST), stirring fears that this may affect the Indian Air Force flypast at the end of the Republic Day celebrations that started at 0930 HRS (IST).
However by 0900 HRS the fog cover had been cleared by a cold breeze and visibility was at a comfortable 1,000 metres.
“The minimum temperature Monday morning was recorded at 13.2 degrees Celsius, a good four degrees above average. The minimum in the coming 24 hours is likely to lower to about 11 degrees Celsius, while the maximum will hover around 23 degrees Celsius,” an official from the Safdarjung met office said.
The morning fog had caused delays in flight schedules at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), officials said.
“Visibility had considerably dropped in the early hours, but now both the runways are working fine - there are no cancellations or delays on account of fog now,” an IGIA official said around 0900 HRS.
He added that the “air space would be closed between 1115 HRS. and 1215 HRS” for the flypast that is the traditionalfinale of the Republic Day parade.
