Denizens sweep roads in protest

CUTTACK: In an attempt to draw the attention of the civic authorities to the problems of sanitation in their locality, residents of the New Colony under Pithapur on Friday took brooms and spades in their hands and cleaned roads and drains.Complaining of continuing apathy of the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC), men, women and children came out of their houses and took to sweeping. The drain in the locality has been clogged leading to overflowing.  “We have knocked the doors of the civic authorities and the officers concerned time and again. But our requests have fallen on deaf ears. Therefore, we decided to do the cleaning work by ourselves”, Suresh Sharma, a local resident, said.
