Ahead of Diwali, Australia on Tuesday announced 1,000 new visas for young Indians under the ‘Working Holiday Maker Program’ every year. The country’s assistant minister for immigration said those aged between 18 and 30 will be eligible for these visas.
The announcement was made at a doorstop event in New Delhi’s Khan Market. Australia’s Assistant Minister of Immigration Matt Thistlethwaite told CNN-News18: “We are launching the ‘Working Holiday Maker’ visa, an opportunity for 1,000 young Indians in the age group 18-30 years to come to work, study and travel around Australia to study the country’s culture and lifestyle.”
He said 1,000 visas will be issued every year through a fair ballot paper, which will be closing on October 30. Registration for the first work and holiday visa ballots for India, China and Vietnam opened on October 1.
The ballot process provides an equitable, streamlined, and transparent way to randomly select applicants from partner countries, he added.
