CHENNAI: The DMDK’s Virugambakkam MLA B Parthasarathy on Friday donated Rs 1.2 lakh, roughly two-and-a-half month’s salary, to poor students of his constituency for their education.Following in the footsteps of his party leader Vijayakanth, Parthasarathy donated the amount for students, who were struggling to meet their educational expenses. “I selected students from the all the wards in the constituency and distributed Rs 1,000 for each student,” he told Express.Education is the only tool that helps the poor change their status of life, he said. “As people’s representative, I feel proud to help students of my constituency,” he added. Parathasarathy, a Vijaykanth Fan Club member and its Chennai Region secretary, became the MLA of the newly-formed Virugambakkam constituency, defeating DMK candidate K Dhanasekhar.People of his constituency said that from Day One he had been visiting the constituency and listening to their grievances. “Around 60,000 residents in the constituency do not have house pattas, despite the fact that they pay house tax and electricity bill. I have already raised the issue in the Assembly,” he said.“I have promised the people that I will solve their problems and will soon be setting up an office to listen to their grievances in person on a daily basis,” he added.
