A doctor allegedly involved in a kidney selling racket was nabbed in Salem on Thursday, taking the total number of those arrested in the fraud in neighbouring Dharmapuri district to six.
Nephrologist Ganesan attached to the Vinayaka Mission Hospital here was nabbed a police team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Parameswara.
Police have so far arrested five brokers since the racket came to light on June 11.
They said 80 patients whom the doctor had so far treated were being questioned to ascertain if any of them had sold their kidneys.
Meanwhile,an ambulance driver at the hospital surrendered before a local court today.
Sale of kidneys is rampant in Namakkal and Erode districts especially among debt ridden powerloom and handloom factory workers, who are given a paltry amount by 'brokers' who pocket a major share of the money.
