CHENNAI: Sunday was one of the few days when health department officials breathed easy. Barring the sporadic few cases of swine flu that were reported till March, since April 10, there have been people testing positive for the (A)H1N1 virus every single day. So when the test results that returned on Sunday showed that all the people with suspected symptoms tested negative, the health department finally sighed a collective sigh of relief. While Director of Public Health RT Porkai Pandian confirmed that the tally of people who had been infected stood at 108, the same number as on Saturday, there was a perceptible sense of relief in his voice. A majority of the people who have been infected have recovered well enough to be sent home, with medication, he added.Meanwhile, following the high level consulation meet that was held on Friday, it has been decided to expedite the procurement of the 50,000 treatment vials, though there was no emergency or shortage of it.
