BHUBANESWAR: The J D Centre of Arts (JDCA) Film Forum on Wednesday began its sixth national short and documentary film festival at the IDCOL Auditorium here. It was inaugurated by Governor M C Bhandare. Over three days, a number of feature films, short films and videos on ‘Celebrating and Reminiscing Masters’, as well as other social issues will be screened there. “This non-competitive thematic annual event is the only documentary film festival on art and artists. The festival will be attended by eminent film-makers, artists and critics from all over the country,” said Jatin Das, chairman of JDCA. This year, the festival’s highlights are painters like M F Husain, F N Souza, Biren De, Jahangir Sabawala, musician Asad Ali Khan, film-makers Mani Kaul and Bhagwan Garga and potter Devi Prasad. Directors from across the country have accordingly selected their films for screening. On the first day, two Odia documentaries - Anvesan: Fakir Mohan Senapati and A Tale of Two Worlds: Prafulla Mohanty - were screened besides the works of Tara Douglas, Arun Khopkar, Mani Paul, Bidisha Roy and Ajai Chawla. A new competitive section, introduced this year, is the screening of student films of five minutes duration and the best of which will be awarded. Workshops will also be organised on ‘Documenting Rare and Dying Art Forms.The Governor felicitated poet and critic Sitakanta Mohapatra on the occasion for his contribution to the field of literature.
