THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Sports Minister K B Ganesh Kumar unveiled a draft sports policy here on Wednesday. The policy proposes to give athletes a prime role and promote accountability and responsibility through mandatory annual performance audit of all institutions connected with sports. A discussion on the draft will be held on Jan 17 and 18 at the Chaitram hotel here. The minister said the draft policy and explanatory notes would be available from Thursday on www.dsya.kerala.gov.in, www.sportscouncil.kerala.gov.in and www.35th nationalgames.in. He urged all those interested in the development of sports in the state to give valuable feedback, latest by January 31, at [email protected]. Kerala is poised to become the fourth state in the country to come up with a sports policy, the minister said. A slew of measures like creation of a sports fund, data bank on athletes and making sports clubs more professional and accountable will be part of the policy, he said. Ticketing Machines in TheatresGanesh Kumar, who is also the minister for cinema and sports, said that from April 1, Keltron ticketing machines will begin to function in film theatres across the state. The ticketing machines will ensure that a good proportion of the issues related to the film industry are solved and the revenue of the state will also go up by at least five-fold, the Minister said. He said it was heartening to note that theatre owners and distributors have agreed to the proposal of wide release of films.
