The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board suffers nearly 40 percent revenue loss from unaccountable usage of drinking water, supplied to the city.
In view of the revenue loss, the municipal administration and urban development department is mooting a proposal to privatise distribution of drinking water.
According to the principal secretary (municipal administration), the unaccountable water usage was not only causing loss of revenue but also uneven distribution of drinking water.
Gulbarga in Karnataka and Pune in Maharashtra have such a system where private players are managing the distribution of drinking water
