Lucknow: Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav on Monday asked party activists to reach out to the people with the achievements of the state government to ensure victory in maximum number of seats in the Lok Sabha polls.

"The coming Lok Sabha polls are crucial and you all should try to ensure that SP gets maximum number of seats... The booth committees should be strengthened and you should apprise the people of the policies and achievements of the SP government," Yadav told party leaders at the state executive meeting in presence of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.

Mulayam will hold two rath yatras for "Samajik Nyay" and "justice to 17 backward classes" on October 24 and address a rally in Azamgarh on October 29. The party leaders were directed to take these programmes seriously and ensure their success. While the yatras are aimed at wooing people belonging to backward classes, the Azamgarh rally would Mulayam's first election rally, sources said.

Mulayam asked leaders to shun differences, if any, and work unitedly for the party. Asked whether the meeting discussed withdrawal of support to the UPA government, party spokesman Rajendra Chowdhury said, "We are not supporting Congress... Our support to the UPA is issue-based." Claiming that SP would play a major role in the formation of the next government at the Centre, he said, "Netaji (Mulayam) is of the view that neither BJP nor Congress will succeed in winning much seats to form the government... Third Front will be the one which would succeed in forming the government."
