BANGALORE: Former MLA A T Ramaswamy accused Ramanjaneya, a former special deputy commissioner of Bangalore urban district, of aiding the land mafia by dropping criminal cases in 428 instances of encroachment of government land which, otherwise, would have led to their prosecution.Addressing the media here on Friday Ramaswamy, in reply to a query as to whether the official alone was responsible for dropping the case or ministers too were involved, said, “No government official can do such a blatant act without the patronage of the leadership of the ruling party.” According to Ramaswamy - convener of an outfit called committee to oppose encroachment of land - as many as 45,805 persons in Bangalore urban district were identified of having allegedly encroached government land to about 41,303 acres in the third report which was submitted to the government way back in 2008.“However, 428 cases which works out to 1,042 acres of land, have been withdrawn by Ramanjaneya during his tenure as special deputy commissioner,” he said. When asked if there is any pattern behind the dropping of 428 cases, Ramaswamy said he has not been able to find out the background of those who have been let off the hook. “The only pattern could be the nexus between the land mafia, officials and politicians,” he added.Ramaswamy, former MLA from Arkalgud in Hassan district said that fake documents were created with the alleged connivance of the officials in order to help the land mafia in about 8334 cases. Instead of initiating action against the culprits named in the report, cases against 428 persons who had allegedly encroached the land to the extent of 1,042 acres were dropped.“Such an act can be performed only by officials having political patronage. What is curious is that those who have been let off the hook have allegedly encroached land in and around the IT corridor such as Sarjapur, Yamalur and Iblur.”
