THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The agro-industrial exhibition and sales pavilion set up on Aruvikkara Dam premises prior to the Karkidaka Vavu Bali is luring hundreds of visitors every day. The exhibition has been organised by Karkidaka Vavu Organising Committee constituted by the Aruvikkara Village Panchayat. The exhibition, which was inaugurated by Devaswom Minister V S Sivakumar on July 27, had received a good response from various government departments and Kudumbashree units. Recently, the Government had declared Aruvikkara dam site ground as a permanent exhibition centre following a request from Aruvikkara Panchayat. Various government institutions, including Farm Information Bureau, Tropical Botanical Garden, Forest Department, Kudumbashree units and private nurseries are participating in the exhibition. Apart from the agricultural exhibition, an industrial exhibition is also being organised. Several automobile firms and small-scale manufacturers of food products and handicrafts are participating in this exhibition. “The exhibition is meant to promote public participation in the programme. The inputs that we supply never yield us any profit. But the programme is designed in such a manner that initiatives like Kudumbashree can be promoted, ” said S Jyothi Krishna , convener of the exhibition committee. Village panchayat president A A Hakeem is confident that the exhibition will further flourish in the coming years. The announcement of the formation of the Aruvikkara Development Authority and International Convention Centre by K M Mani in his Budget has instilled a new confidence among the organisers of the event, he added. “The evening count of the visitors may cross well over thousand . We get more than Rs 2,000 daily, that too without spending much on rent,” said Shinu of Poovachal Thakshasila Kudumbashree unit who is selling pickles and homemade food items. The exhibition will conclude on Saturday.
