Experts guide city youth to crack IAS examSpeakers at a seminar on the various different ways to crack the IAS exams gave vital tips to the many aspiring civil servants in the city who had gathered, to help them come out tops in one of the country’s most challenging examinations.
Addressing the gathering at the event organised by the Periyar IAS Academy here on Sunday, Marudham Selvaraja, former head of department, Presidency College urged the candidates to burn the midnight oil till they achieve their goals.
“Civil service examinations are like any other course pursued in higher education. Anyone who is willing to work hard with the right focus can emerge victorious,” he underlined, laying emphasis on the fact that it is always the hard workers who succeed in life.
Pointing out that those who are preparing for the civil service examinations should not be self-conscious and avoid temptations, he said, “One should inculcate the habit of extensive reading on a variety of subjects. He added that instead of reading about subject that one enjoys, reading what he/ she is not too keen about will help them go a long way.
Narrating a few moral stories to drive home the point that hard work is the best way to go about the exam, he stated that neither poverty nor personality would deter an achiever from reaching his aims. In his speech, income tax officer Veerabahu said that the aspirants must create an interest in every subject, apart from focusing on improving their language skills in English.
The participants were also given guidance on choosing the right optional subject and the scheme of the civil service exam.
