CHENNAI: C Rajan, who was arrested by the CBI in March this year on graft charges and suspended from the post of Additional Director General of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), was granted bail by the High Court on Thursday.Justice MM Sundresh granted the relief to Rajan and his driver Murugesan, the co-accused. The judge noted that almost all the witnesses in the case had been examined. The material documents had been taken into custody by the CBI. Only one witness, a foreign national, was to be examined and he was likely to be examined shortly.  The custodial interrogation of the accused was also over. Since Rajan had been suspended from service, there was no likelihood of his tampering with the  records. Hence, the court was inclined to grant bail, the judge said. The accused should be released on bail on their executing a personal bond for `10,000 each with two sureties each for a like sum to the satisfaction of the Principal Special Judge for CBI cases. They should report before the CBI daily at 10.30 am until further orders. They should not enter the office building, in which they were working. Rajan was caught while accepting bribe from a businessman to de-freeze his account and not book him under Conservation of Foreign Exchange and Prevention of Smuggling Activities.
