Monaco: World and Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce believes last weekend's Glasgow Grand Prix was a turning point in her comeback from injury, and is hoping to continue improving for the rest of the season.

The Jamaican was speaking ahead of her outing on Friday, where she will contest the 100 metres in the 10th meet of the lucrative Diamond League series, reports CMC.

Fraser-Pryce has struggled in recent weeks with a foot injury and it has resulted in poor showings on the circuit. However, last weekend she finished second at the Glasgow Grand Prix, and she has taken encouragement from the outing.

"Coming back (from injury) is not easy," Fraser-Pryce said on Thursday.

"I have been trying to get over the injury but I have not been able to work consistently in the last two or three months. Running 11.10 in Glasgow last weekend felt really good. But now I want to build on that."

She opened her season by winning at the Jamaica Invitational back in May and followed up with another victory in Doha at the season's first Diamond League meet.

However, her performances have tailed off since, and she has now failed to win in her last five outings.

The injury also led Fraser-Pryce to scale down her participation at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow starting next week, where she will only line up in the sprint relay.

Friday, she will face a stern test as she comes up against a strong field with fellow-Jamaican Veronica Campbell-Brown, American Allyson Felix, Co'te d'Ivoire's Murielle Ahoure and Nigerian Blessing Okagbare challenging her.

Felix, the reigning Olympic 200 metres champion, said she would be using the 100 metres to prepare for the half-lap.

"The 100m is more of a challenge for me as I have issues with my start. It also helps me keep my 200m in shape," Felix said.

"That's what I'm doing this month, working on my start and my acceleration."
