Jaipur: Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot will flag off the trial run of Jaipur Metro Rail on September 18.

After two months of trial run on the 2.4 km track, the facility would be opened to public some time in December, CMD of Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation Limited N C Goyal said Sunday.

The trial run would be conducted between Mansarovar and Shyam Nagar stations via New Atish Market and Vivek Vihar stations at a speed of 40 to 45 km per hour, the CMD said.

For the first phase of the project, Rs 3,149 crore was earmarked and "we have spent Rs 1,500 crore so far", he said.

No one would be allowed to board the train during the trial run due to safety reasons, Goyal said.

The foundation for the next phase of the project between Chandpole and Bari-Chaupar would be laid on September 21, and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who would be on a day's visit to Kishangarh, might be invited for the ceremony, the CMD said.
