KOCHI: The Inter-nursery Kids Fest and the Rotary-New Indian Express Family Shopping Expo ‘11 ended here with much glam and glitter. Actor Remya Nambeesan inaugurated the valedictory function on Sunday.   The two-day fest saw at least 1,300 children, below the age of six from over 90 schools, taking part in the first-of-its-kind programme.Rotary Club member Faasil said: “We realised that it is extremely important  for children of this age get an opportunity to be on stage and showcase their talents. There are many limitations to host programmes for children as  young as three or four.” Amidst much hopes and expectations, Time Kids Pre-school, Kochi, won the ever-rolling trophy earning 45 points. Al-Ameen School bagged the runners-up  trophy. It earned 32 points. Hibi Eden MLA, who gave away the trophies, said the parents should have the   capacity to realise the potential talents lying within their children and  encourage them at a very young age.Sensing the enthusiasm of those gathered for the fest and the potential of  the students as young as two, regional coordinator of Rotary Club Cochin Prakash Chandran said they were hoping to conduct a similar festival in association with The New Indian Express for the youngsters next year too. Competitions such as single action songs, group action songs, story telling, speech, solo dance, group dance competitions, painting competitions, general knowledge tests and Baby King and Queen programmes were held.The New Indian Express Editor (Kerala) Vinod Mathew said The New Indian Express was hoping to bring out a school edition soon, specifically to provide a platform for young children to write and exhibit their skills.Hundreds thronged the Expo which had at least 25 stalls showcasing home furnishings, automobiles, holiday spots, life insurance scheme companies, kitchen appliances, a kids play centre, ayurvedic massage, silicon items, branded handbags, IT products and textiles.Hibi Eden MLA, The New Indian Express Editor (Kerala) Vinod Mathew, Rotary  Club regional coordinator Prakash Chandran, Rotary Club assistant governor   V M Nair, District director (club service) Madhav Chandran, The New Indian  Express General Manager Sunil Nambiar, Programme Dream Home proprietor Mani V and India Trade Foundation chief executive N Gopakumar were also present.
