THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala is expected to get a temporary respite from its power woes with the 2600-MW Ramagundam power station in Andhra Pradesh back in operation. The state is expected to get 260 MW from Ramagundam by Tuesday evening. Ramagundam was closed down on September 25 following the Telangana struggle. The strike ended on Monday and the station was back in full load operation by 3 p.m. on Tuesday. By October 25, Kerala also stands to get an additional 110 MW with Union Power Ministry urging repairs to be speeded up on one 500 MW unit which is under annual maintenance at Talcher power station in Orissa. The Power Ministry’s instruction has come in view of the Deepavali celebrations, it is understood. Kerala and four other states had run into a deep power crisis following problems at Ramagundam and Talcher earlier this month. The 970 MW that was getting from the Central pool had slipped to 400-500 MW prompting the KSEB to introduce curbs.
