CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government has announced an incentive of Rs. 50 per quintal for common variety of paddy and Rs. 70 per quintal for Grade A variety during the procurement season 2011-12 that began from October 1 that includes Kuruvai and Samba seasons. Already, the Central government has ordered a procurement price of Rs. 1,110 for Grade A variety and Rs. 1,080 for common variety for the current season.With the announcement of incentive, the procurement price for common variety of paddy will go up to Rs. 1,130 per quintal and the price for Grade A variety will go upto Rs. 1,180 per quintal between the period (kharif season 2011-12) October 1, 2011 and Sept 30, 2012. The incentive has been announced considering the welfare of the farmers and in order to avoid any distress sale of by the farmers, the G.O dated September 30 said.Paddy will be procured under Decentralised Procurement System. The government has directed the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation to open adequate number of procurement centres in the Cauvery delta region and other paddy growing areas in the State, in consultation with the District Collectors on need basis.The paddy procurement shall be made as per the Uniform Specifications prescribed by the Government of India, in all the Direct Purchase Centres in the delta areas and in all taluk godowns in non-delta areas (except Chennai and Nilgris districts) of the State.
