BANGALORE: Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah reiterated his charge that the state government has grossly failed to come to the aid of the people in drought-hit areas of the state. He was addressing newsmen after emerging from the all-party meeting convened by the Chief Minister, to discuss a host of issues ranging from the drought and conferring special status to backward regions of the state. He informed that he brought this to the notice of the government during the meet. “Farmers are selling their cattle at throwaway prices for want of fodder...migration from rural areas is widespread as the government has failed to provide employment.”Siddaramaiah also added that the Congress leaders touring the drought-hit areas would submit a report to the state and Union governments over the weekend. “Congress has demanded a waiver of farm loans for 2011-12. However, the state government has not made any commitment on the demand,” he said.
