Govt Considers Rolling Out A New Policy For The Elderly
As part of the policy, old age homes will have better environment for the occupants, in the presence of more recreational opportunities.

New Delhi: The government is considering bringing in a fresh policy for elderly people in the country, Lok Sabha was informed on Tuesday.

Responding to supplementaries during Question Hour, Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thaawar Chand Gehlot said the government is considering a new policy for for the country's aged.

As part of the policy, old age homes will have better environment for the occupants, in the presence of more recreational opportunities. Gehlot was responding to a question by Shiv Sena's Srikant Shinde, who said it was "shameful" that India had ranked poorly in a recent survey on elderly.

In 1999, the country had adopted a policy for senior citizens, which brings people above the age of 60 years under its ambit and extends certain benefits to them.
